Balloon Hangar at Fort Worden

I have a lot to share from our weekend up at Fort Worden in October. The Balloon Hangar was the largest building on the site was constructed in 1920 for about$85,000. Several were built around the country as part of the country's defense. Read more about them HERE!

The Army experimented with balloons as part of the coastal defense. The same year the program started it was dropped. The Fort Worden hangar never housed a balloon.
In "An Officer and A Gentleman" the fight between Richard Gere and Lou Gossett Jr. was fought in this building. A lot of scenes for the movie were shot on Fort Worden grounds or the nearby area.

Today the building has been made into a performing arts theater with seating for 800 -1,200.
