Art Days are the best days!!!

Nothing goes better together than art, friends and food!  This afternoon I got together with some of the most amazing artists, we had so much fun... we were trying to may "bottle brush" Christmas Trees. It sounds easier than it is.

First there are the tools...

VISE (took hubby's off the work bench)
Drill (hubby's)
Drill Batteries (hubby's)
Battery Charger (hubby's)
You seeing a trend here we are using the REAL TOOLS!!

Hook for the Drill (hold the wire while we twist it)... hubby designed one!
Wire Cutters

Rope
Wire - 19 or 20 gauge

The green tree was an inspiration tree. The 5 tan trees were what I ended up making.

Here were some of the fun things we did with a few of the trees!!!

Altered Pages Blog Today - Gift Giving Bows

We are fast approaching the gift giving season... Who doesn't like to receive a plate full of cookies?  What about a plate full of cookies with a beautiful bow?  This week a friend of mine, Michelle,  posted a bow she made from pages of a magazine.  I thought I could do this with cardstock, so off to YouTube I went. Each bow takes approximately one piece of paper.  So if you run out of bows and need a quick solution... we have it for you ... make your own!!! You can make these from any papers, I am using some of my papers from ALTERED PAGES!

Graphic 45 Paper -- Green and Rust bow made from paper in one of my Mailbox Muse Circus Kit
Miraculous double sided Tape (staples or hot glue)
Paper trimmer and Scissors

This is my first attempt at the large bow, paper measurements are
3 - 10 1/2 x 3/4 inch
3 - 8 1/2 x 3/4 inch
3 - 6 1/2 x 3/4 inch
1 - 3 1/2 x 3/4 inch -Center
On the second large bow I adjusted the width to one inch, measurements are
3 - 10 1/2 x 1 inch
3 - 8 1/2 x 1 inch
3 - 6 1/2 x 1 inch
1 - 3 1/2 x 1 inch - Center

The smaller bow the measurements are:
3 - 10 1/2 x 3/4 inch
3 - 8 1/2 x 3/4 inch
1 - 6 1/2 x 3/4 inch
1 - 3 1/2 x 3/4 inch - center

Here is an image of the individual pieces of the bow  before assembled.

Be sure to watch one of the many videos on YouTube to get the folding technique down!

Charity Wings Ornament SWAP

I participated in an ornament swap at Charity Wings

'Tis the season - I joined a handmade holiday ornament swap! We each had to make two ornaments - one to swap and one to donate to the Charity Wings auction tree.

For the swap I had a great time creating these vintage looking ornaments!

All metal charms and pressed metal from Echo ArtWorks!
This is my ornament, the tin is approximately 2.5 inches in diameter.

The tin was first painted with Vintaj Patinas. The rim coated with glue to adhere vintage glass silver glitter.  Add a bit of Stickles for bling in the creases of the tin.  One hole was punched in the top and three on the bottom of the tin.

Tule adds a softness to the inside of the tin.  A stamped metal heart with a mermaid & seahorse was glued to the bottom of the tin. A stamped metal heart frame was hung from the hole in the top of the tin.  Attached to a headpin with beads on the outside of the time. Colorful ribbons tied around the headpin.

Three headpins with beads and charms (sea shell and seahorses) hang from the lower three holes.
The heart in the bottom of the tin and the one dangling from the hole creates a 3-D effect.  The beads and ribbons from Echo ArtWorks.

Have fun creating your ornaments this Christmas!

Thankful for Those That Served Veterans Day Blog Hop!

I am proud to honor those that have served and those that still serve this great country of ours in Leslierahyes "Thankful for Those That Served Veterans Day Blog Hop!"

Before I created my project I looked up the history of the holiday.  Veterans Day has been celebrated since the end of WWI.  It began as Armistice Day and has evolved over the years to our present day Veterans Day.
Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day.... Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans--living or dead--but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime.
From the History website, to learn more about Veterans Day visit HERE!

THANK YOU for YOUR SERVICE!

Christmas in Red & Black!

One of my favorite things to alter are cigar boxes!!!  I frequent my local cigar shops looking for them.  Years ago I could get them for free, now I have to pay anywhere from two to five dollars a box depending on the quality! Seems silly since they were going to go in the trash!!!!

Supplies:
Cigar box
White Gesso
Purple Cows-Punch-Tonic http://www.purplecows.net/
Figures from the Dollar Store
Stash: Flowers, puff paint (create snow)

The Robin's Nest Snow Covered Glitter Trees cardstock created a wonderful backdrop for my little winter scene.

My cigar box was painted with white gesso then covered with The Robin's Nest cardstock.  The most time consuming part of this project is waiting for paint to dry and measuring all the pieces of paper.  Altering boxes is a fun project. Sort of like the dioramas we made when I was in school.

Be sure to check out the
 papers and embellishments
are 20% off the month of November!!!

Time In Paris!!

I just got my first of Altered Pages new line of stamps!  Today I am using the Hour Glass - one of four of the Time on Your Side set.

Supplies:
Paris Paper from the All Things French MailBox Muse Kit
Hourglass - from Time on Your Side set

The hourglass would be great for Steampunk New Year's, Wizard of Oz or even birthday cards. A very versatile stamp. Great addition to any stampers collection.
