Happy New Year with my Black-eyed Pea Recipe



Every New Year's Day I serve black-eyed peas and cornbread.  I load them with ham and my own combination of spices. Below is my recipe for 2018 if you would like to try it. 


Enough Dried black-eye peas to make 4 to 5 cups cooked
1 - large ham steak
2 - strips of bacon
1 - small onion
1 - cup of water
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp celery salt
1/2 tsp mustard powder
1/4 tsp of cayenne 

Red onion
Cornbread

Prepare black-eyed peas ahead of time as directed on package. Cook the 2 strips of bacon, then add small onion chopped and a cubed ham steak, cook until the onions are transparent. Add drained cooked black-eyed peas about 4-5 cups. 1 cup of water. Add onion powder, garlic powder, celery salt, mustard powder and cayenne. Simmer 30 minutes... Serve with red onions and cornbread!
