Postcards from the Past!

I love vintage postcards and have an ever expanding collection. When I see postcards of swans I have to buy them!  They are gentle reminders of my mom who passed away over five years ago!  She loved swans.  Here is a beauty mailed in 1917, over one hundred years ago.

Mailed Feb 1917 to Mr. Bernard Elbus(sp) or Mt. Sterling Ill.

Message: Would it be convenient for you come out Wednesday or
Thursday evening of this week. M.M.

I am sharing these postcards with Postcard Friendship Friday!

Note - all postcards shared on Postcard Friendship Friday are from my private collection unless noted.

Stamperia Make & Take at Creativation 2019!

I was fortunate to do a make and take with Antonis Tzanidakis at the Stamperia booth.  We made this beautiful canvas with his new line of Stamperia papers and stamp!

First, we painted our canvas, then added paste with stencils and dried it.  Then we added small bits of paper from Antonis new line with mixed media glue and let it dry.

The heart is made with paper moulding clay and stamped (a new stamp designed by Antonis).  We cut the heart image out of the wet paper moulding clay.  Tricky part was it should be dried overnight.  Since I was leaving the next day we dried mine with heat tools.  I do not recommend this.  Overnight would have been much better.  After the heart was sort of dry I painted it terracotta, wiping the excess off around the edges of the heart added a few gears to the heart and dried the paint.

Then covered the whole canvas with a brown oil based paste, wiping of the excess.  Sadly it the heart was not totally dry and I had a couple of spots where I bumped it that afternoon and the clay crumpled.  I touched up the areas with a Nuvo Mouse and you cannot tell that it ever happened.

LOVED this make and take.

Happy New Year with my Black-eyed Pea Recipe

Every New Year's Day I serve black-eyed peas and cornbread.  I load them with ham and my own combination of spices. Below is my recipe for 2018 if you would like to try it.

Enough Dried black-eye peas to make 4 to 5 cups cooked
1 - large ham steak
2 - strips of bacon
1 - small onion
1 - cup of water
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp celery salt
1/2 tsp mustard powder
1/4 tsp of cayenne

Red onion
Cornbread

Prepare black-eyed peas ahead of time as directed on package. Cook the 2 strips of bacon, then add small onion chopped and a cubed ham steak, cook until the onions are transparent. Add drained cooked black-eyed peas about 4-5 cups. 1 cup of water. Add onion powder, garlic powder, celery salt, mustard powder and cayenne. Simmer 30 minutes... Serve with red onions and cornbread!

ENJOY and may you have Prosperity through the NEW YEAR!
