This month the Viva Las Vegastamps! Design Team was challenged with the theme of LOVE... and I think Paris is one of the most romantic cities in the world. So my first post this month combines my LOVE of Steampunk with my LOVE Paris!

Stamp VLVS!Eiffel Tower on tissue paperlet the ink set, use heat tool if necessary) and adhere to the background, mask VLVS! Eiffel Tower. Edge pattern paper panel Versafine Crimson Red ink. Then stamp the VLVS! Nesting Gears and VLVS! Steampunk Warrior on the background with Versafine Crimson Red ink. Heat emboss the VLVS! Nesting Gears with Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powered. Stamp the VLVS! Steampunk Couple ( on a light colored card stock, fussy cut, color with COPICs and attach with foam tape to add dimension. With VLVS! Miracle Tape attach the pattern paper panel to black card stock then adhere to red card base.

Stamp sentiment "I love Paris in the Springtime" with black ink on scrap of paper, edge with Versafine Crimson red, layer on black cardstock adhere to card with foam tape. Last touches add Stickles to the wings on man's hat, adhere locking wash on man and embellish lady with rhinestones.

Now I am excited to share my LOVE CAST IN CLAY project!

Using both Creative Paperclay® and Amazing Mold Putty I have created a Valentine wall ornament.

First, I found this awesome bird that would make a great mold... wrapped him with Amazing Mold Putty and let it set about an hour, Then filled the mold with Creative Paperclay® and let it set for a couple of days.

I found this great paper mold and filled it with Creative Paperclay® (I knew wouldn't be using all the pieces for this project, I love having extras around)

Finally, I hand molded roses from Creative Paperclay®. Starting with the first petal wrap it tightly to create the center of the rose. To make a petal take a small ball of paper clay and press very thin, then wrap around the base. Keep adding petals until there are enough for a full rose. Now wait.... let everything dry completly. It may take a couple of days.

The frame for my assemblage is an over sized cookie cutter. Sand both inside and out so the glue would adhere to the metal easily. Glue sheet music to the outside of the over sized cookie cutter and text from an old book to the inside. Punch holes with Crop-a-dile for hanging, the heart is hanging on its side (punch the holes accordingly).

Printed an image 8 x 11, I used one from Vintage Image Craft use matte photo paper and then mount on chipboard to make it stiff. Fussy cut the image of the Victorian lady and cupid. Glue a toothpick to the back of the arrow in the heart to reinforce it.

Paint all the Creative Paperclay® pieces and add Stickles when they dry.

Glue fiber trim to the out side of the frame. Add the ribbon for hanging, use buttons to hold the fabric ribbon in place on the inside and outside of the frame.

Attach the Victorian Lady to the back of the frame (her dress will hang longer than the frame.) Glue the Creative Paperclay® ribbon to the front of the frame. Arrange the bird and roses inside, add feathers and artificial leaves as desired.

When we first got Lilly we knew she would miss all her playmates. To help her sleep I gave her a stuffed otter that I have had for years. She was half the size of the otter just before Christmas, now look at her. She loves sleeping with the otter and drags it all over the house!!!!

Creative Paperclay® Time Flies!

What I love most about Creative Paperclay® is... if I cannot find an embellishment for a project be it a card, assemblage, wall art I can always make it from Creative Paperclay®!

First create molds using mold putty from found objects then cast the Creative Paperclay® and allow to dry.  For this project I made: pocket watch, column and a frozen Charlotte.

Believe it or not... this book is a found item. The pages had already been cut out, lucky for me.  The cut pages were wired together, which made it easy to work with. I white washed the back inside cover with a light coating of gesso, then spritzed with Stewart Superior  Memories Mist: Silver and Iridescent. 

Stamped background images on tissue and adhered to the back of the book.  

Adhere the pages to the back cover of the book and painted a little gesso around the outside edges of the pages.

The Creative Paperclay® column was aged with brown ink, then place  in the window box. Stamped the border of the window box with the print pattern and added a bit of paper ephemera.

The Creative Paperclay® pocket watch was painted gold and the the clock faces and spinner with brad were added.

Final touch to the pocket watch are the plastic eye lashes for wings, adhere to book.  Distress the alpha dice with Memories Black Ink and adhere! Add the bird on tissue to the border, a little bit of cut doily and the word "flies" using Tim Holtz letter.  Add a dash of blitz with Stickles on the doily.

Touch up with gold paint around the pages, a bit of gold distressing on the frame, Paris clay piece and my  Creative Paperclay® frozen Charlotte.

The Hive - Valentine e-Swap!

"U R SEW SWEET"

The Hive Valentine Swap theme was sewing. My Valentine is a shadow box. I didn't buy one thing specifically for this project... all the supplies were already in my studio. A lot of my time is spent in thrift stores, flea markets and antique stores looking for treasures that could be used in future projects for little cost. Finding them is the challenge!

Before starting I searched my stash for every heart button or charm I could find and anything that had to do with sewing (you will find a supply list at the bottom of this post.) I decided my color pallet would be reds/pinks, white and brown/golds. That I would use Scrabble letters.

First, prepare a shadow box. The first layer of paint was gesso (any white craft paint will work) to give it a base coat. The second coat of paint is Making Memories-Shopping Bag, then Making Memories-Bordeaux to give it a shabby look. Any craft paint will work.

I collect vintage Valentines, this one is perfect for my box. To give this one it a little dimension I used Sakuro 3D Crystal Lacquer on the scissors and set aside to dry.

I had a little Cherub that I wanted to use for several Valentine projects. To do this I created a mold with Amazing Mold Putty and made several cherubs with Creative Paperclay®. I also made molds for the half spools and frozen Charlottes.

Distress the Scrabble letters by lightly inking them with Versafine Crimson Red and wiping it off, then ink with Memento Rich Cocoa and wipe again. This gives them an "aged" look.

Then you are ready to start arranging the treasures in the shadow box. It will take several times arranging things to get them the way you like them. Here are pictures of the final arrangement.

Creative Paperclay® Embellishments for Cards

Use Creative Paperclay® to create light weight embellishments for your handmade greeting cards.

I love vintage Valentines and have a large collection of them. This time of year I love using them to make the Valentines to give to my special friends! For this card I used a couple of with a sewing theme. I wanted a little something extra on the card to give it some dimension, so I made a half spool of thread for the card.

Supplies:

Creative Paperclay®

Mold Compound

Spool

Brown ink

Embroidery floss

Valentines

GLitter Glue

Doily

Card stock for card base

Pattern paper for background

First, I made a mold using a spool. Pictured is the mold with Creative Paperclay® drying in the mold. I like to give my items at least a few hours to dry (sometimes 24 depending on the thickness of the object.) Once the spool was dry I inked it. Then wrapped it with embroidery thread (to look like a thread.)

Fussy cut the Valentines. Attach the pattern paper to the card base, then the doily, and Valentines. Using Tacky glue attach the spool of thread.

Add a little glitter glue to the dress and hair bow.

The Valentine is complete...

On December 11th we lost our dear Daisy Girl. She was eleven, the joy of our home. She had some one with her 24/7. Here she is pictured with her grandpa on one of our trips to Fort Worden in Port Townsend. She loved to go places with us. We will truly miss her.

Our home seemed so empty without the pitter patter of little feet and we knew grandpa needed a little companion when we were out of the house. For Christmas we had a new addition to the family. Let me introduce you to Little Lady Lilly!

Viva Las Vegastamps! and Creative Paperclay ® Christmas Ornament!

The design team challenge this month is to use Viva Las Vegastamps! and Creative Paperclay®. Last post I did a project creating ornaments by directly stamping on Creative Paperclay®.

This time I am combining the two by making an object with Creative Paperclay® and stamping on paper.

Supplies I used:

Viva Las Vegastamps! Holly Stamp

Creative Paperclay®

Copics - red and green

Stickles - red and green

Tulle

Small Tartlet Pan

Silver tinsel pipe cleaners

Memories In - Black

Snowflake charm

Crop-o-dile to punch holes

Press clay in to mold and let dry overnight.

Remove molded clay.

Stamp VLVS! Holly on white paper, fussy cut, color with COPICS and embellish with Stickles.

Punch holes with Crop-o-dile for pipe cleaner hanger and snow flake charm on the bottom. Trim tartlet pan with silver tinsel pipe cleaner, gather small amount of tulle and glue in pan. Add snowflake charm, molded head and Viva Las Vegastamps! Holly.

The ornament is ready for your tree, as a package trim or a set would make a great gift!.

Creative Paperclay® Christmas Tree

You may have noticed our team was challenged this month to use Creative Paperclay® with Viva Las Vegastamps! I love rubber stamping so this was a fun challenge for me.

Here is the Christmas tree I created using both Creative Paperclay® and Viva Las Vegastamps! The stamps I used are from the Swirl Plate #1333!

I gathered my supplies (see list below). The base of my tree is a Styrofoam cone. To plan the sizes I needed I precut paper into three layers for the size of cone I was using. Using straight pins to help, I pinned each player to the cone. Make sure to have a little extra length on the top layer to create the point at the top.

I roll my clay out on transparencies, this way I can leave them on the sheet and move them around easily. The Creative Paperclay® was rolled between spacers, about 1/8th of an inch thick and cut to a 4-1/2 inch strip for the bottom of the tree (depends on the layer working on). Then carefully stamped with swirls over and over until the piece of clay is filled with swirls. Then cut the clay into strips. There are: eleven 4-1/2 x 1-1/2, nine 4 x 1 and seven 3 x 1, finally on angel. Set aside the clay to dry, usually 24 hours, maybe more depending on humidity.

While waiting for the clay to dry give the Styrofoam cone a quick coat of paint. Once all the clay pieces have dried paint each one green. Set aside to dry.

After the first coat of paint is dry cover with gold paint be sure to get it in all the crevasses, then wipe the excess with a rag or paper towel. Set aside to dry.

Now liberally apply tacky glue to the back of each strip of Creative Paperclay® attach to the Styrofoam cone, overlapping the strips and holding in place with straight pins. When you get to the top layer you will need to trim the top so the strips are tapered. Use a rubber band or twist tie to hold the top together at a point. Add the angel, cover with gold Stickles. Allow to dry overnight or longer.

Touch up an edges that may be exposed with gold paint. Now you are ready to add your tree to your holiday decor.
