HAPPY THANKSGVING!

Been preparing for our Thanksgiving feast since last night. I always serve my mother's fresh cranberry salad.

Turkey is in the oven!

I have always wanted to make a Thanksgiving Turkey with feathers, like when I was in grade school, not one made with my hand!!!  Art Anthology Coloration Sprays were used for the feathers, body beak and feet.  Velvet Dimensional Paint - Desire was used for a beautiful red wattle. The feathers are cut with an Elizabeth Craft Designs die!.

Art Anthology Colorations Timeless, Granny Smith, Juicy, Patience and Sedona.  The sprays are vibrant!

Spraying Colorations on paper creates a spray/splattered pictured on the left.  I was after a full coverage look, while the spray was still wet I smeared it with my fingers, see results on the right!

Postcard Post: Little Rock, Ark

Two things caught my eye about this card.  First, the way the card is split on the back, it isn't a half and half split.  Second, the abbreviation for Arkansas and Washington.  I have noticed may times Washington abbreviated as Wash.

When did they split the back

The State School for the Blind in Little Rock Arkansas was founded in 1859. The original campus was in Clark County and moved in to Little Rock in 1868.  I do not know the date the above picture of the school. I do believe they moved from the site in 1939.  The school is still open,  to find out the history of the school click HERE.  For information about the school click HERE!

Mailed November 36, 1907 from Little Rock Ark to Pullman, Wash.

On the back: I received your photo & card today. Am so glad to have them. Many thanks. I think the girls dormitory is very pretty. This is my place of abode. This doesn't show much of the buildings, but is a good view of the front. Will write you when I find time. C.W.

Back to the reasons I wanted to share this card... when did the two letter abbreviation state start being used.  Back in 1874 the US Post Office recognized common abbreviations for states.  Like ARK for Arkansas and WASH for Washington, even though they preferred it to be written out.  In 1963 when the 5 digit zip code was introduced the 2 digit state was introduced to make room the new zip codes.  There has been only one change to the 2 digit codes, that was in 1969, Nebraska was NB and changed to NE... to avoid confusion with New Brunswick in Canada.

The second reason the card intrigued me, was the way the back is divided. Around 1907 was when for the first time the sender was allowed to write more than the address on the back of the card. By the looks of it they were not allowed much room!

St. Patrick's Day Greetings!!!

Will you be sending greetings on St. Patrick's Day?

The coat of arms of Ireland is a harp on an azure blue background. The image of the harp has changed over time. The harp pictured here is similar to the one used during the 17th century.

Message: Miss Mc Came though fine and thinks she is better already.  The girls are decorating and you never saw the "Old Mailery" so gay in Greensboro and flags of Erin. L.A.M.

Notice the postmark, at the bottom id R.P.O. which means this was posted on a Railway Post Office.  From what I can tell the R.P.O. marking is Chicago, Owen & Minneapolis Track 2 in 1908.
R.P.O index

"At their height, RPO cars were used on over 9,000 train routes covering more than 200,000 route miles in North America. While the majority of this service consisted of one or more cars at the head end of passenger trains, many railways operated solid mail trains between major cities; these solid mail trains would often carry 300 tons of mail daily." So much to be Thankful for!

As we finish the Thanksgiving week I think of how much I am thankful for in my life. This is one of my favorite holidays.  Families and friends gather and enjoy a great meal together.  There are tons of leftovers to feast on for several days, and a great turkey soup at the end.
