A Night to Remember at JUDY's JUNK & JAVA with the BOOT SCOOTIN' GRANNIES

Friday was my father-in-law, Ben's, 82nd birthday. Paul and Dean helped Dad celebrate this day in a VERY SPECIAL WAY!

Let me back up... Judy's Junk & Java is where we buy all of our coffee!!! We purchase a pound at least once a month, sometimes more often. Over the last year and a half Dad and I have gotten to know Paul and Dean from sitting around a chatting when we come by to purchase our coffee and attending every special event they sponsor. A couple of months ago they came up with the idea of doing something at Judy's for Dad's birthday. NEVER did I think it would be as fabulous as it turned out! DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO KEEP A SECRET??? Especially when you spend a lot of time with the person the surprise is for! Thank goodness for email... as a lot of the planning was done electronically.

Back to Friday night: When Dad and I arrived at Judy's Junk & Java Paul was out side fiddling in the garden... to meet us. Dad had no idea what was going on, I told Dad I had cards to drop off at the store for them to sell (which was the truth). It would be a quick stop before going to dinner. When we walked in the door the front room had been cleared! Dad was given a seat on the piano stool handed a cup of JAVA and then the fun began. People poured out of the back room singing HAPPY BIRTHDAY. There were friends, family and the BOOT SCOOTIN' GRANNIES!

This was the most awesome gift...

Dean & Paul bought the BOOT SCOOTIN' GRANNIES for Dad!

The grannies danced for 25 minutes....

the youngest in the group was 60, the oldest 83!

I hope I am able to dance like this when I am in my 80's!

They were very entertaining!

I highly recommend them as family party entertainment.

Dad enjoyed every minute of the show... there was a time or two you could tell that he was tearing up! After the entertainment we all sang again and had cake and ice cream.

I ordered a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting from CJ's Catering...

was it ever the best!

Fun was had by all.

That evening after we left he told me over and over again:

• This is the "best birthday he has ever had".
• What great time he had!
• How did you all ever do that?
• I can't believe it.

The most disappointing part of the evening was I didn't get pictures of everyone... me of all people who has a camera in hand at all times. I did get video of the entertainment and yes, it has been viewed several times since we've been home!!!

Let me introduce you to JERRY MATTOON!

Before I go on about Jerry Mattoon...

I want to start at the very beginning. I first saw these wonderful ostrich eggs done with pen and ink on one of my visits to Judy's Junk & Java were we buy the coffee we brew at home.

Judy's Junk & Java is one of my stops at least every other week while running errands, we love their personnel roast coffee! Which they fresh grind if you request. Judy's is an antique store (JUNK) that sells coffee (JAVA) and displays art of local artists. If you haven't been there you must stop by, Dean and Paul are gracious hosts!

The first time I noticed the eggs I was in awe!

More recently I spied this painting in the shop.

The clown blowing bubbles.

I just love how the bubbles capture scenes in the painting.

Could it be another Jerry Mattoon... YES!!!

On September 17th Judy's Junk & Java celebrated their one year anniversary. They had a wonderful market on the approach and patio in front of the store. Several artists were present. It was an enjoyable evening chatting with and getting to know the artists. Hanging next to the entrance of Judy's Junk & Java I noticed this guy...

and inside was this beautiful bust...

I made a comment about the piece hanging by the door looking like motorcycle parts and was told they were. I was also informed it was a piece made by who other than... Jerry Mattoon.

By now I am overwhelmed by the talent of this man.

He is a very diverse artist sculpting, inking and painting.

Last Friday night we attended a First Anniversary Celebration at Judy's Junk'n Java. There were displays by some amazing artists. One was local artist Jeff Oens, we were fortunate to have the opportunity to chat with him during the evening. The pictures are a bit dark, I was taking them outside in the rain!

Sorry - late notice we know, but had to make certain it wouldn’t be raining tomorrow (ha!)  So, with a forecast of just cloudy, we’re on!  Tomorrow, Sunday, April 25^th, 9am-3pm.  Come join us for the patio sale … new old stuff at great prices.  The house will be open also and it is still Spring Cleaning Sale time!  Fresh-roasted coffee available to buy fresh ground for home or drink while you shop. My favorite place for a cup of coffee in Silverdale is Judy's Junk & Java.  There you get PERSONAL ROAST COFFEE. When you buy your coffee they will grind it for you!  They also sell wonderful peanut brittle on order!  

ANTIQUES is what makes it my favorite coffee house.  If you know me I am a collector... I love looking for that perfect THING!!!  

They are great, always giving back to the community.  March 12th is Old Town Silverdale Art Walk and they will have a party going on at their place.  Be sure to stop by!

LADIES NIGHT OUT! Feb 17th

Last Saturday I went out for a cup of coffee... I have a few spots I like to get a cup of java.  My favorite place in Silverdale is Judy's Junk & Java.  There you get PERSONAL ROAST COFFEE. When you buy your coffee they will grind it for you!  They also sell wonderful peanut brittle, TO DIE FOR (I am not kidding).  I ordered two that I am picking up Wednesday evening, February 17th, during LADIES NIGHT. 

 

I love the Personal Roast Coffee and the Peanut brittle, but I must confess... the combination of coffee and ANTIQUES is what makes it my favorite coffee house.  If you know me I am a collector.... I found this wonderful jar of buttons when I was there this week.

Old Scrapbook!!

First, if you know me... my father-in-law is my shopping partner.  We go out shopping in antique stores at least every other week... or thrift stores, then there have been times you might find us at the Good Will.

This past weekend we went to unique store,  Judy's Junk & Java, located at 3656 NW Munson Rd Silverdale, WA 98383.  There you can buy a cup of "JAVA", then peruse the antiques in the store.  

While looking around with coffee in hand I came across this scrapbook.  I sat for the remainder of my visit and looked through all the wonderful pages of the book.  

It is a book from 1946, here are a few of the pages, starting with the birth of their baby boy!
