“I am talking and I can’t shut up.”

"I have too many fantasies to be a housewife!"
Embellished with i-rock Gems

Have you ever ordered a grab bag of stamps?  Not only are they a great value for your dollar, it is exciting to get stamps in the mail and not know what is in the package.  Viva Las VegaStamps has a whole selection of “Grab Bags” to choose from.  They also have an amazing deal on a “Pound O’ Rubber.”
You may get images or sentiments you wouldn’t normally use.  You can do a few things if you get these.  Stash them forever and never ink them, trade them or do what I did and make a set of cards as a gift set!

"No good deed goes unpunished."
Embellished with Stickles.

When I receive a grab bag I stamp each image on a piece of paper to use as a catalogue of the images.  How do you know what you have if you can’t make out the rubber image?
I decided to make this set of cards called “I am talking and I can’t shut up” for my sister who loves sarcastic humor.  They will be perfect for her to use for her friends.
"Have you had your lithium level checked lately?"
Embellished with i-rock Metallics.
First, I stamped the Woman's Face several times on card-stock and cut it out.  I colored her hair with COPICS. On a panel stamped “I’m talking and I can’t shut up.” Then adhered Woman's Face to the panel.  Stamped sentiment on separate piece of card-stock.  Layered pattern paper on card, attached panel with foam tape for dimension.

" Promise me anything but don't give me chocolate"
Embellished with flower and huge brad.

Empty NEST!

We now are empty nesters!!!!  On Wednesday we went out to check on the birds and they had left the nest.  It wasn't a surprise, all the reading we have done mentioned that they didn't stay in the nest long.  We were sad to see them go so soon.

There was one sighting in the large Rhododendrons in our front yard. We wish them a safe journey in life. They will need it,  I hear they winter in Mexico!

From  "Pacific-slope Flycatcher: Three to five white eggs with brown blotches near large end are laid in a moss-lined cup nest made of small twigs and rootlets, usually built against a tree trunk where the bark has split, in roots of a wind-felled tree, in a bank, or under the eave of a forest cabin. Incubation ranges from 14 to 15 days and is carried out by the female."

The Birds Are Growing Up!

Just eleven days ago these three young birds were featherless.  You wouldn't believe it unless you have been following the pictures posted here over the last couple of weeks!

Their eyes are wide open now!!!!

Monday Pics of Baby Birds!

We know our time with them is getting short, they have grown so big. It is just a matter of days before they leave the nest!
From the ground this is what we see...
A little feather tail sticking over the edge.
It must be the tail of this little one.
Look how developed the wing feathers are!

Designing an ATC for a SWAP!

You may be asking, “What is an ATC SWAP?” First, ATCs (Artist Trading Cards) are miniature works of art about the same size of a baseball card, 2 ½ X 3 ½ inches.  They are traded and not sold!
Think of a SWAP like trading baseball cards only you are trading your art.  In an online SWAP there is a host.  The host will invite others to join the SWAP they are hosting.  The invite will include (but not limited to): a theme, deadline for joining the swap, number of cards to make, any special details (like must have one stamped image or must include a dimensional embellishment) and the date to mail by to the host.

Once you have finished your ATCs you mail them to the host.  The host then SWAPS them out.  You mail eight and you will get eight back from eight different artists.  That is the SWAP!

Back to designing.  To design an ATC, my goal is to design an ATC that is pleasing to me.  As in all art, ATCs are a personal expression.  I get an idea and go from there.  The last SWAP I joined was a STEAMPUNK ATC SWAP.  So I pulled out my Steampunk stamps from Viva Las VegaStamps (VLVS).

To start my design I have a stack of per-cut ATC cards that I use just for this step of my creative process.  When I have left over paper from projects I cut it to ATC size.  I don’t want to use my final paper choice to design,  as I may not have enough for designing  and the actual cards I will SWAP.
I will tell you a secret, sometimes what I envision works the first time.  Others, it takes several tries to get a combination that is pleasing to me.  Remember, there isn’t a right or wrong way to create your ATC.

My first idea for my Steampunk ATC was to use the Ferris Wheel in the back ground stamped with a lighter ink, then the Flying Man at the top of the ATC and the  Vintage Man with Umbrella below.  Both with darker inks.  I tried the first card without masking and others with a mask.  I switched out stamps.  As you can see it took several tries before I came up with the final card.  I used several different stamped combinations.   I love having a collection of stamps to work with when designing.
FINALLY, the Victorian Hot Air Balloon I used on the  card above gave me an idea... Here you have it, below my final ATC!
The Victorian Balloon and Acrobat on Rope with a sentiment.  I used Copics to give the hot air balloon a little color, Stickles and embellished with three locking washers.

VLVS I used in my developing process:

VLVS on the final card:

Sunday Afternoon Bird Pics

WOW, look at all the feathers!!!!  They will be ready to fly any day now.

Just nine days ago they only had feather fuzz!

Now their eyes are opening a bit!

They are so precious.
One day soon we will check the nest
and they will be gone!

Sunday Morning Caught Pic's of Momma Bird

Early today I was out in the front yard and happen to see Momma Bird in the tree... she has her mouthful.

Looks like she is ready to feed.
She won't go near the nest when we are around.  I am sure she thinks if she stays away she is protecting their location.
Little beak waiting for Momma Bird!

Saturday Pics of Our Growing Family!

If you look closely you can see their tiny eyes in a few of the pictures. Sorry they aren't totally in focus. When taking the pictures we try not to disturb Momma Bird too much.  I don't have much time to fiddle with the camera.  The pictures are taken while I am standing on a stool and pointing the camera hoping to get a good shot.  I am not looking through the view finder!!!!

I have seen them with their beaks open waiting for food, but haven't been able to catch a picture.  Maybe tomorrow.
