This week MY HOUSE embodies two challenges.  First, da ma maison il ya, there is a misunderstood king in the house. Second, Art Creations Friday #19 provided the image of the boy (I used in the house) to incorporate in a card/project.  Finally my roaming card gnome made it into another one of my projects!  I am having such fun with the Gnome from Rubber Soul! Art Creations Friday  image of boy to be used!  I even used my Keep Calm Carry On stamp in the background (you can see it if you enlarge the picture)!!!!!

Guardian in UK- Keep Calm and Carry On

On March 18 the Guardian in the UK had a picture gallery for "Keep Calm and Carry On" Click here to see it.

Also in the Guardian was an article.
"Stay calm and put up your poster" Quoted from the Guardian.

I love how everyone is embracing the slogan.

Today the Chicago Tribune has a story  By Colleen Mastony the WWII Poster "Keep Calm and Carry On".  I just love that as a stamper I can use this amazing part of history in my art and cards.

Central Market Poulsbo

If you have ever been through Poulsbo on your way to Highway 3 you have driven by Central Market... I love the food demos the culinary staff do every day.  Kim and her staff are AWESOME!!!!

NEW "Keep Calm and Carry On" from Rubber Soul! & UHU review!

Edit post 1/22/12: The Rubber Soul brick and mortar store closed last year.  You can still buy Rubber Soul stamps online. HERE

Yesterday on my way home I dropped by the Rubber Soul.  I was so excited to be the first person to own their newest mounted   stamps!!!!  "Keep Calm and Carry On".  It is  available in TWO rubber stamps. One is solid the other has floating words  click here to see!  I went home and made ATCs for a trade I was participating in on Friday evening, everyone loved the slogan.

The stamps are miniatures of a British WWII propaganda poster, to learn more about the poster go to Barter Books.
Below are the ATCs I traded, I used the solid stamp with VersaColor - Cardinal.
Stamping tip: I always stamp on glass, especially when I have a solid background. I always get a better image.

These are my new favorite stamps!!!!

On another note, just for asking I received a UHU glue roller from UHU.  Most of the time I use glue stick when ever I make ATC's.  On these I used the UHU glue roller!!!!  I love it.  NO MESS like the glue stick.  The roll made the job quick and easy!!!!

British WWII Poster

Who said wait long enough and history repeats itself... Over 60 years ago this poster first debuted. Just a few copies made into the public arena.  I don't think this is back for the same reason it was originally printed.

It is timeless!

A very simple poster with a strong message for all times.  The story behind it is even more amazing.  I learned it's history recently at Barter Books in the UK.

From Barter Books Website:
"On the eve of WWII, the British government produced a series of posters whose intent was to convey a reassuring message from the King to his people. ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ was one of three posters in a particular series and though millions of copies were printed of all three, ‘Keep Calm’ never went public. The reason for this is that it was meant for distribution only in the event of actual German occupation which, mercifully, never happened. After the end of the war, some few Keep Calm posters escaped being shredded. As far as we know, only two remain in good condition: one is in the Imperial War Museum, and the other, in Barter Books.’

Dimensional ATCs

Once a month I get together with a group of ladies and we exchange ATCs.  A couple of months ago we were given a wooden ATC to create.  THis week we exchanged them.  Here is a group picture of them.  They turned out fabulous.  Each one was an expression of the artist.

This was my dimensional ATC.

The post card reads, "He seemed to have taken your picture in different positions."  When I use decorative napkins I remove the two layers of baking.
The background of my dimensional ATC is a napkin adhered with Mod Podge!

Linda said...

Hi Lyneen...what a great idea to promote going green! One of my "green" efforts is to recycle things I find at work into my crafting, like outdated test tubes, packing chip board and plastic tubing. I have everyone at work looking at things as potential craft materials!

Sunday, March 15, 2009

Liz at Artistic Sojourns got me to thinking when I read her post "Thoughts on Going Green."  She mentioned three ways that she has GONE GREEN: Sharing My Supplies, Re-use, Recycle and Share My Art.  What an inspiration... I was so inspired that I have decided to SHARE MY SUPPLIES.... I have way more than I will ever use.  I will be cleaning and organizing my craft room over the next few weeks as I get ready for shelves in the closet to help me organize.

I am not sure how many RAKs I will be giving out!  There will be several.  Just know I am a vintage and contemporary  crafter so there maybe a mix.  All you have to do is leave a comment tell me how you have gone green in your crafty creations. It could be as simple as something you used on a card or layout.  If you like and have a picture on your blog put a link in your comment.  I'd love to see it.  Oh, if you would, let everyone know about my GOING GREEN RAK!  If you post on your blog I will add you into the draw a second time!!!!  Become a follower and check my CANDY BAR on the right from time to time!

This will end on MARCH 17th!!!  St. Patrick's Day...
Winners will be announced on the 18th!
May the luck of the IRISH be with you!

For those who aren't Irish but would like to celebrate with a wee bit of Irish food here is a recipe  for Irish Bread... CLICK HERE and visit Charlie and Me!

My Beeswax Collages

A couple of weeks ago a group of us got together to play with beeswax!!! This was my first collage. The image of the couple is from Collagevisions - Digital Collage Sheets. I won several from a challenge a WinterHaven. On this piece I used mulberry paper, tissue paper, lace, flowers, die cut letters and a grunge board flourish.  Everything on this is attached using the wax except for the rhinestones.
Below is a close-up.  The wax intensified the  colors of the flowers.  You can see the lace in the wax.
My second attempt at a beeswax collage.  On this one I used tissue pattern pieces, printed napkins, lace, cheesecloth and added a flower on top of the collage.
Below close-up of the cheesecloth
Before I left I waxed several pieces to use in later projects... napkin, Vogue pattern, page from a book, stamped mulberry paper and cheesecloth.
I had a blast playing in the wax... I need a melting pot!!!
