HONORING MOM

Breast Cancer Touched my Life when Mom was diagnosed in December 2007.  We lost Mom this past December, she fought four courageous years!  Family was the most important thing to her in life.  She was the one who inspired the creativity in her children.  I have wanted to do something to honor her.  So here it is "A Beautiful Pink BRA" in all its glory! I know if she were here today she would be pacing asking, "When can I try it on... Can I wear it to the lake!"

Painted with Sakura Crystal Lacquer mixed with Terri Sproul Mixers - Pink Shimmer the Bra is stiff enough to stand on its own! The butterflies painted with Sakura Crystal Lacquer mixed with Terri Sproul Mixers - Pink Shimmer and Tanzanite blue.

One night I started pulling things from my stash and playing with what I found.  As you can see from the picture above and the one below the project evolved as I worked on it.  I used wire to attach all the metal pieces.  A small awl was handy to make holes in the lacquered bra. 

Each item on the bra represents something in mom’s life.

4 - four years and her four children

Butterflies are her grandchildren

Locking washers - spouses and other family members

Blue gem on the 4 for her great grandson

Pink Gem on the 4 for her great granddaughter she never got to know

Wire on the 4 - her ability to keep everything going, everything together

Gold trim and sequins - she loved a party, crazy hats and outlandish outfits!

Flower her love of gardening

Beads on one breast that had cancer.

Wings that she earned

Charms represent some of the things she loved in life

Camera - photography and scrap-booking

Christmas Tree - her favorite holiday and big family dinners

Airplane - the trips to Europe she enjoyed with her sister

Bird house - for the 20-30 bird feeders she had called “Beaksburg”

Clock - how precious time is.

Heart - her unconditional love

Silver Feather - from a pair of earrings she wore 

Scissors -the clothes she made when we were small, prom and wedding dresses 


This may not be finished as I look at it I know there are things in Mom's life that I missed.  So don't be surprised if you see this again in the future with a few additions... LIKE SOME WINGS!

Morgan's Fresh Bright Colorful ART!

I love Morgan's whimsical, fresh and bright colors.  You will find Morgan every week at the Bremerton Farmers Market and this Saturday, July 28th at Whaling Days!!!!

I caught Morgan taking a few brush strokes at the Bremerton Farmers Market today!  

If you are in Silverdale this weekend, Morgan will be at Whaling Days on Saturday from 10-5, selling cards, prints and originals.  Look for the Street Fair - Art Alley on Byron Street between Lowell & Byron Streets.

My project for today... 

A little bit of OZ

Cut images from sheet of Graphic 45 the Magic of Oz Spread Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer on the back of the Fancy Glass to adhere image. Set aside to dry. Adhere bails to the back using Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer.

Gently with emery board remove any excess paper. Add seed beads to the edge with Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer.

Or leave the edges plain. What a great gift for that person who loves all things "OZ".

The pendants look perfect hanging from the Ball Chain!

Creative Paperclay Quick Tip!

 Quick Tip of the Month

  Prepping your project before painting. 

When you use molds like this one from Articus Studios or cut your paperclay with cookie cutters it is impossible to always have a clean edge. 

The images above and below were cut out with mini cookie cutters you can the rough edges around them. 

Here are a few of my favorite tools I use to clean up the edges.  The tools with the pink handles were made by Basic Grey several years ago.  I love the files, one is round and the others all have a little different shape. You can find files similar to these at the hardware store. One of my favorites to use are emery boards from the dollar store. Last, sand paper for bigger projects. Sand Paper can be torn or cut into smaller more manageable pieces.  

Most of the time I use a emery board, the files are for the hard to get to places.

Once you have cleaned up the edges of your paperclay peices you are ready to paint them.  For a good part of my projects I use Sakura Crystal Lacquer mixed with Terri Sproul Mixers.

Viva Las Vegastamps! ~~~Tangling with Stamps!

Today is the first time I have stamped any of the new TANGLE stamps from Viva Las Vegastamps! I had a lot of fun.  

One of our very own and very talented design team members, Sandra Strait, created the large Zentangle stamp and others available at Viva Las Vegastamps!

The images are stamped on Kromekote Cardstock. I was very pleased with the detail of my images.

I stamped and masked the Flying Bird, Pen Tips and Steampunk Alphabet "X" before I stamped the large Tangle from Plate 1424. Then I used my Tim Holtz Distress Markers to add a bit of color.

EYE ON FASHION of the PAST.

This past week the Viva Las Vegastamps! design team partnered with Gauche Alchemy. We have a wonderful collection of projects using products from both companies!

My project was a book titled EYE ON FASHION of the PAST. 

Only the front cover was used to in the daily post. I am here today sharing the rest of the book.

The base is a 5 Ring Kaiser Craft Scrapbook that was first painted brown. After the paint dried, all pages were covered with vintage papers then inked using Color Box Fluid Chalk Ink Pad - Rouge and Punchinello as a stencil. Papers were trimmed then all edges were sanded. On the cover VLVS! Fifties Eye Cat Glasses and Lady with Flowered Top. 

Note: All stamped images in this project are from VLVS! They were stamped on sewing tissue, heat embossed with VLVS! High Gloss Embossing Powder and tinted with Tim Holtz Distress Markers.

Gauche Alchemy Supplies include: Vintage Papers including sheet music, yellow game piece as an eye glass on front , sequins, fabric cut into strips used with ribbons, Punchinello as a stencil with ink, lace black and purple, tag, Button, Bottle Cap and Gold Beads. Other supplies acrylic paint, Sakura Crystal Lacquer, Color Box Chalk Rouge and ribbon.

Collage papers, inked using punchinella as a stencil for coverage of the background. Added pieces of doilies, colored some of the images on the collage papers with Tim Holtz Distress Markers.

Page 2 & 3 - VLVS! stamps Lady In Slacks, Lady Showing Slip and Lady With Muff Embellished flower cut from GA black lace. Pieces of doilies have been incorporated through out the book.

Page 4 - VLVS! Lady with Pleated Skirt Another GA black lace flower with button and decorative straight pin. Tag between pages 4 & 5 purple lace, sheet music and VLVS! image of Lady Holding Up Dress.

Page 5 - VLVS! Two Ladies Fancy Dress another flower from the black lace.

The page has an image from the grocery Page 6-has this beautiful framed image. The frame is a GA bottle cap filled with Sakura Crystal Lacquer over the image, add the beads around the perimeter set aside to dry.

Pages 7 & 8 - VLVS! images Art Doll Set Large (head only) and Lady in Scarf Dress

 

The back of the book has been stamped with VLVS! Beautiful Women. Embellished with flower from the black lace, trim cut from the purple lace.

To finish the project add a lot of ribbon/fabric to the rings. On this book there is combination of both.
