One of my gifts for Christmas!

My family knows not to pick out something new for me... all of my gifts are from the attic, thrift store or antique store! I plan to share a few of my gifts this week. Mom sent me the practical gift!

"The Kitchen Encyclopedia" is 31 pages, a sixth edition, copyright 1911.

It is full of recipes using "Swift's Premium Oleomargarine". From Fig Loaf to Little Beef Cakes. Not only does it contain recipes it has useful information for Baking-Day, Use of a Fireless Cooker, Using Cheaper Cuts of Meat, tips on House Plants and Laundry Helps. It was truly a practical guide for every kitchen!

GOOD-BYE dear friend... we will miss you!

Last week I couldn't write this... I think I am ready now. On December 31st the doors of Rubber Soul on Front Street closed for the last time.

I first walked into Rubber Soul in 1995, that was the year I moved to the PNW. Whenever I needed a stamp or anything stamp related I headed to Rubber Soul. The shelves were full of wonderful stamps and awesome samples. Over the years Rubber Soul became a huge part of my creative life. I would meet my art friends there once a month. Chat with the staff. Take classes there. Have them make special one of a kind stamps. Eventually teach classes at the store. There was a homey feeling in the store, you were always welcomed with a smile.

I loved the store decor... at Christmas, garlands and poinsettias. The window treatments were a hit with passerby's, especially the bottles hanging with flowers. Or the time monkeys were hanging around the store. At Easter Tulips brightened the place. You would find "day of the dead" items around Halloween. The store was transformed with each holiday and season.

Front Street in Poulsbo will never be the same in my mind without you. Thank you for all the great memories. I am going to miss you my friend.

NEW YEAR... One is a Lucky Number!

With is the arrival of 2011 my wish is a year of prosperity for everyone. I know many have struggled 2010, some even longer with the economy. I pray that all changes in the NEW YEAR!

With the NEW YEAR comes a phenomenon that can only happen once each century!!! There are four days this year with all ONES! At first I was excited that my birthday would be all ones. Then I realized there were two days, later it dawned on me there were three days and finally I came to the conclusion FOUR days in 2011 had all ones.
