Wild West ~ Commissioned Card

A week ago I met a wonderful lady that had seen my cards in a local store "Claywerks" downtown Bremerton.  I happened to be in the store and we talked about my cards.  During the conversation she asked if I had any "cowgirl" cards, she had a friend that had a birthday coming up and would love a card that fit her. At the time I didn't, but I let her know I could make one. I had the perfect image in mind. This is may Annie Oakley image. The card turned out perfect for the occasion. 

I stamped red on red VLVS! Harlequin Background, layered papers and leather fringe added twine from May Arts and a little spur charm.

The story doesn't stop there.  This post card intrigued me.  On the back the date looks like Oct 14, 1908, 1910, 1916 or 1918 (I can't make out the year.) It was mailed from Everett, WA to Stanly, Wisconsin.

The subject matter of the card is what caught my attention!!!  The very top on the back J.S. wrote" "Got so interested in a socialist speech that almost forgot to go home." Then later writes, " You ought to be here some Saturday night when they have their political speeches on the corners. Especially the socialists."

I decided to do a little research, the reference to Everett got the best of me, since I don't live far from there.  Here are a few things I learned.

During the 1910s, the Socialist Party of Washington was one of the largest state affiliates of the SPA in the Western United States, touting a membership which peaked with more than 6,200 paid members. -Wikepedia

In September 1911 Maley made her way to the Pacific Northwestern region of the United States to take over as editor of the Socialist newspaper The Commonwealth, based in the mill town of Everett, Washington. During the time she headed the financially struggling paper, Maley earned her primary income as a public lecturer, drawing very little income from the paper's coffers. Maley remained on the staff until the end of May 1912, when she left wage a campaign running for Governor of Washington.-Wikepedia

Everett Massacre 1916 - The Everett Massacre of  Sunday, November 5, 1916, has been called the bloodiest labor confrontation in Northwest history. On that day a group of Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), also known as Wobblies, traveled from Seattle to Everett aboard the steamers Verona and Calista, intending to speak at the corner of Hewitt and Wetmore avenues in support of a strike by local shingle-weavers. - HistoryLink.org 

Maybe J.S. attended one of these speeches over 100 years ago!!

Robin's Nest ~ Springtime!

I fell in love with The Robin's Nest many years ago.  My introduction to the company was at my local scrapbook store. They had Dew Drops on the counter! I bought a bottle of each color! 

The Robin's Nest pattern paper Glitter Spring Flowers & Dew Drops are featured in my shadowbox. 

To create this box you will need:

Shadow box

Robbin's Nest Paper Glitter Spring Flowers

Robin's Nest Dew Drops

Sakura Crystal Lacquer

Paper Flowers

Birds

Small Glass Shoe or other small items

Crafters Moss for nest

Wooden block for bird nest post

Wooden topper for box

Paint - Purple

Craft Glue 

Quick Dry Glue

Additional Embellishments optional:

Spring

Sunshine

Be Blooming

1 -Paint wooden pieces with purple paint

2 -Cut Glitter Spring Flowers paper to fit the shadow box and topper

3 -Adhere paper with craft glue

4 -Cover the flower on the topper with Sakura Crystal Lacquer - set aside to dry

5 -Cut a part of the pattern paper to wrap around the post. Cover the flower with Sakura Crystal Lacquer to make the flower sturdy - set aside to dry

6 -Adhere wood post and topper with craft glue

7 -Make a small nest with crafters moss and craft glue, add three white Dew Drops for eggs and little bird on top. 

8 -Add paper flowers, Dew Drops for flower centers, birds and other embellishments with quick dry glue.

At the bead store I spotted this beautiful filigree butterfly.  Add a few Robin's Nest Dew Drops with E6000 then a silver pin back finding and you have a beautiful pin to add to your spring accessories!

Adhere fibers with Helmar Craft & Hobby Glue
Adhere buttons with Helmar 450 Quick Dry Glue

Remembering Mom

In Honor of Moms!

This is my second Mother's Day without my Mother.  I would like to dedicate this post to all the Mom's out there.  

Altered Pages has many images that would make beautiful cards and gifts for moms!

Mothers love anything that is made from the heart.  I know first hand. When I was in the second grade I made a mug from clay. It was glazed and fired and I was really proud to give my special gift to mom. It was crudely made and way  too small to use for drinking. For years she kept little things in it on a book shelf. When I was about 18 I told her she could toss that ugly little mug. Her reply, "Oh no, this is a precious gift from my beautiful daughter."

Happy Mother's Day Mom!

Ok so I got the sequence out of order!!!! Land, Air or Sea... Air, Land or Sea? I still like my 7 panel card!

The card is from a 12 x 12 sheet of paper cut into three strips 4 x 12 and folded at 4 and 8 inches. The three sections were then adhered together to create 7 panels. 

All images are from a variety of collage sheets from Altered Pages.

The backgrounds are Stamped with Viva Las VegaStamps! Nesting Gears and heat embossed with Ultra High Gloss Embossing Powder!

 Background pattern paper is Carta Bella's "Well Traveled"
