Beautiful Fat Book

This is the last post from the art retreat in April.  We had an invitation to join a  "Fat Book" swap.  Ten of us participated.  Our retreat theme was "soar" as in birds.  The end results of our books is amazing, pictures do not do it justice.  Again, I would like to thank Jo, Cathy and Susan for all their hard work putting together such an amazing weekend.

Cathy & Jo designed the beautiful cover.
Susan created the awesome artwork!
I tied all the ribbon...

Jo made beautiful nests from her collection of fibers.

Left the back of Jo's,
right Susan's glamorous woman with a bird house in her hair.

Miki's art is full of stories... in her pages she used photos.
The background in the page above is an actual photo of a cave she recently visited;

below the moth at the top of her page is a photo of an actual moth!

The very talented Grace included a fabulous image
from one of her original works of art.

Mo joined us all the way from England
and brought her wonderful 3-D pages.

Cathy's stunning peacock created from a combination of paper, fabric and feathers.  Her assemblages the most amazing.

My lady in Paris collage.

Linda has a remarkable eye when creating.
I love all her detail in her work.

Beth designed her gorgeous birds nest from wire.

Kris created these delightful pages using images from vintage wall paper.

THANK YOU LADIES for the wonderful gift of your art!

Treasures from the Art Retreat

Our artist retreat was April 2-4.  It was an amazing weekend.  Each day Susan, Cathy and Jo had special surprises in store for each of us.

At each table on the first day we received a colorful tote bag with SOAR on it.  We each received a little gift bag with a few treasures.  I am sorry to say I have already stashed them all away.

The yellow bird house below was the invitation for the retreat.
It was filled with information on each days project, supplies needed,
what was provided and templates we would need.

There was a huge nest on the snack table that first day
and these sweet little birdhouses were scattered around the table.
They have the cutest little sign "be Back after S.OA.R"

Our second day we each were presented these beautiful books.
Susan went above and beyond...
I am not sure how many she made, I know it had to be at least ten.

Inside she cut a niche, if you haven't guessed by now the theme of our retreat was birds.

In my niche is this beautiful bird... each bird was a bit different.

The second day the big nest held these beautiful speckled eggs...

The eggs were filled with these precious bird buttons!

When we arrived on the final day each place setting had center piece on a doily,
it was an inverted cone decorated covered in textured paper and a bird.
There were a few flowers and a small paper birdhouse in it.

We  also received these sweet birds made by Jo and Cathy...
the backing is felted wool.

What a wonderful weekend.  One of the attendees came from as far away as London.  The rest of the participants were local artists.  It was a special time with some of the greatest friends an artist can have.

From the bottom of my heart I would like to
 THANK
 Susan, Cathy and Jo
for making this such a special event for all who attended.
You all went above and beyond our expectations!

Art Party... my Marie Antoinette dress!

A few of my wonderful artistic friends and I get together as often as we can.  This afternoon we had a wonderful day playing with paper.  We were going to do paper dolls, but it turned out that we just made paper dresses.

If you know me I am always one to get side tracked.  We were provided with a template to use if we liked.  I was the only one to take another path.  I have been wanting to play with Marie Antoinette dresses. So I took a paper doll stamp I have and designed my dress around the stamp.  This is my first of many Marie Antoinette dresses, I hope.
The outer skirt of the dress is mulberry paper.
Bird stamp is Cavallini.
I also used lace, paper, Dresden Foil, crepe paper and a doily
Pink - Crystal Stickers Pearls.
The white pearls are attached to the lace.

I am sharing this with Dress of the Month
over at Alice and Camilla.
I also hope to get a more traditional dress done for the month of March
