My Last Creative Paperclay® Quick Tip

This is my last post as a member of the Creative Paperclay® Design Team. I have had a great time sharing my ideas with you this past year. 

For my final not so quick tip I thought I would share some of the projects I have done over this last year.  When viewing them I noticed they all had one thing in common, all of them are finished with Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer, most have Terry Sproul Mixers. 

What I have found is Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer is a one step finish on Creative Paperclay®.  When I used the lacquer mixed with the mixers I only had to paint my projects one time and had a sealed coating on the Creative Paperclay®.  

This mask was for my Creative Paperclay® Design Team application in April of 2012, it was never posted on the Creative Paperclay® blog. Made by molding Creative Paperclay over an inexpensive mask. The flower is a paper napkin adhered with Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer. The rest of the mask is painted with Sakura Crystal Lacquer and Terri Sproul Mixers: Red Garnet and Citrine mixed (making a beautiful tangerine color.)  See more about the Mask HERE on my blog!

For this altered tin I molded a Frozen Charlotte with Creative Paperclay® from an Articus mold. She was painted with Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer and Terry Sproul Mixers - Citrine. Original post is HERE!

My Creative Paperclay® wall pocket was inspired by vintage Victorian wall pockets. The pocket was painted with Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer and Terry Sproul Mixers - Bronze. It has a very vintage look, see the original post HERE.

The Creative Paperclay® Fascinator is one of the only projects  that I painted with craft paint (black) and came back and sealed it with Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer. Original post HERE!

The Creative Paperclay®  crown fit for a princess was painted with Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer and Terry Sproul Mixers - Gold. One of the only projects I gave a second coat of the Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer/Mixers.  I was after a "rich golden color." Original post HERE!

This inexpensive bird house was altered with Creative Paperclay® peices. The Creative Paperclay® pieces were painted with Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer and Terry Sproul Mixers: large leaves -  Pearl Green, tiny flowers - Citrine Pearl, large flowers - Rose Pearl, small leaves - Tanzanite Pearl mixed with Shimmer Citrine and birds Aquamarine Pearl. The Fall Tree was created for the Creative Paperclay® and Amazing Mold Putty Blog Hop, which was never posted on the Creative Paperclay® blog. The leaves are molded out of Creative Paperclay® and painted with Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer and Terry Sproul Mixers - Citrine Pearl, Rose Pearl and Shimmer Garnet. I had a few plastic leaves and I needed a bunch of leaves for my tree  that I am decorating for my table this year. Instead of trying to find more leaves, spending hours looking for them I decided to make them.(Note: Decorating this tree is an annual thing, it is something I keep in the holiday decorations.) 

In the middle of the picture you see a white & yellow ball of the two parts of Amazing Mold Putty (AMP), there is a leaf on top... I do this so I can estimate I have enough to make my mold.  Mix the two parts well, then press the object , today I am using leaves into it and let it set a few minutes.  You feel to test that it has hardened by touch, but flexible to use and release your Creative Paperclay®.  Then you are ready to start molding! 

I molded over 25 leaves and set them aside to dry. Once dry I cleaned up the edges with an emery-board. Now they are ready for paint.  

My favorite product I love to use to paint Creative Paperclay® is Sakura Crystal Lacquer and Terri Sproul Mixers. The reason is when I am painting I am also sealing. The Sakura Crystal Lacquer is a sealer and is a one step painting job. For my leaves I used Citrine Pearl, Rose Pearl and Shimmer Garnet.  I love how the colors mixed when I painted the leaves.  Let the leaves dry.

Adhere the leaves with a dab of Sakura Crystal Lacquer... and spread the leaves around the base of the tree.

Lyneen's Creative Paperclay® Quick Tip!

So you want to play with Creative Paperclay®, but you are afraid to because you don't know how to mold a doll, a figurine or any other object.  Well neither do I and I LOVE PLAYING with Creative Paperclay®!  Here are some of the tools I use when I play with Creative Paperclay®. 

These are tools (pictured above) I had when I used to make fondant flowers in my cake decorating days.  If you have any cake decorating supplies, think how you might use them working with Creative Paperclay®.  Just remember once you use any kitchen gadget with Creative Paperclay® it should not be used in the kitchen with food again!  

Articus Studios has some wonderful molds you can use with Creative Paperclay®. Here is one of my favorites - Frozen Charlottes!

Cookie cutters make great tools for special shapes.  At little cost you can find them at thrift stores.

Make your own molds using Amazing Mold Putty!!!  When I see something that I would like to have several of, I think about using Amazing Mold Putty.  Like the little cherub pictured, I only had one of him.  Since I made a mold I can have as many as I like using Creative Paperclay®!

Pictured here is a paper mold.  Used when making your own paper and pressing pulp in the mold... also, great for Creative Paperclay®!

 

Candy Molds are another great mold to use!  Just remember once used with Creative Paperclay® it should not go back in the kitchen! 

Use items to mold Creative Paperclay®.  Here I have an inexpensive mask from the dollar store that I am using as a mold for the clay.

The Hive - Valentine e-Swap!

"U R SEW SWEET"

The Hive Valentine Swap theme was sewing. My Valentine is a shadow box.  I didn't buy one thing specifically for this project... all the supplies were already in my studio. A lot of my time is spent in thrift stores, flea markets and antique stores looking for treasures that could be used in future projects for little cost. Finding them is the challenge!

Before starting I searched my stash for every heart button or charm I could find and anything that had to do with sewing (you will find a supply list at the bottom of this post.) I decided my color pallet would be reds/pinks, white and brown/golds. That I would use Scrabble letters. 

First, prepare a shadow box.  The first layer of paint was gesso (any white craft paint will work) to give it a base coat. The second coat of paint is Making Memories-Shopping Bag, then Making Memories-Bordeaux to give it a shabby look.  Any craft paint will work. 

I collect vintage Valentines, this one is perfect for my  box.  To give this one it a little dimension I used Sakuro 3D Crystal Lacquer on the scissors and set aside to dry.

I had a little Cherub that I wanted to use for several Valentine projects.  To do this I created a mold with Amazing Mold Putty and made several cherubs with Creative Paperclay®. I also made molds for the half spools and frozen Charlottes.

Distress the Scrabble letters by lightly inking them with Versafine Crimson Red and wiping it off, then ink with Memento Rich Cocoa and wipe again. This gives them an "aged" look.

Then you are ready to start arranging the treasures in the shadow box.  It will take several times arranging things to get them the way you like them.  Here are pictures of the final arrangement.
