Dia de los Muertos - Blank Page Muse Blog Hop

In brief Día de los Muertos or comonly known at The Day of the Dead, is a Mexican holiday where the souls of deceased relatives of family and friends are welcomed home for a brief time that includes food, drink and celebration, even parades. The celebration traditionally occurs November 1-2 but can be longer.

For the blog hop today I am sharing several cards made with stamps from both Blank Page Muse and I Brake for Stamps.

Images were stamped with Stazon on ink on watercolor paper.

Other supplies
Stazon Ink
Watercolor paper
Watercolor paints
Acrylic Pens - neon pink, green and orange
Black fine tip Sharpie
Enamel dots - assorted colors
Black card bases

Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks Squeezed Lemonade, Wilted Violet, Twisted Citron, Peacock Feathers, Festive Berries and Spiced Marmalade

Let the watercolors dry then fussy cut all images.  Create background papers by wiping bright Oxide Inks on watercolor paper.  The lighter colors first.

With acrylic pen add dots around the edge of the edges of the skull above and Frida below.

On the two skulls below additional with acrylic pens, draw circles around them with a fine tip black pen.

DAY OF THE DEAD.... SABOR!!!

The papers made by SABOR are amazing!!!  The colors are vibrant, the paper is heavy, the products are AWESOMSE.  What more can I say.  Mi Amor Sabor!

Day of the Dead is one of my favorite themes to create! The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died.  Since losing several family members it has a special place in my heart now.  SABOR has wonderful papers to use for the celebrations.

I entered this in Things Altered - Anything Dark Challenge on Facebook HERE!!

Today I have an altered cigar box to honor family I have lost!
Theses are the papers that inspired my project!

Let's get started!

First find a cigar box that the images would fit in.

Supplies:
Cigar Box
Black Gesso
SABOR-El Novia Cardstock
SABOR-El Novio Cardstock
SABOR-Amor Cutouts
SABOR- Ramitos
SABOR-Sentimetios Amor
Gel Medium
Dimensional Adhesive
Tacky Glue
Fabric Flower for Sabor
Flowers
Silk Floral Leaves
Skulls
Dew Drops
Fussy cut images from SABOR-El Novia Cardstock and El Novio Cardstock.

Apply Gel Medium to fussy cut images, let dry.

Paint cigar box with Black Gesso, let dry.

Measure the cigar box front and &back, from remaining SABOR-El Novia Cardstock and El Novio Cardstock cut a piece of cardstock leaving a 1/4 inch border. Apply with Gel Medium, let dry.

Measure outside lower sides of the cigar box, cut pieces from SABOR- Ramitos leaving a 1/4 inch border, apply with Gel Medium, let dry.

Measure inside sides of the box,  cut 3 pieces from SABOR- Ramitos the exact size of the sides, apply with Gel Medium to the sides and top, let dry.

Adhere a sentiment from SABOR-Sentimetios Amor to the inside front (above) and another to the front  (below) of the box with Gel Medium, let dry.

Layer fussy cut images inside the box using Dimensional Adhesive to add space between the layers.

With Tacky Glue add a Fabric Flower for Sabor in front of the fussy cut images.

Embellish with Flowers, Silk Floral Leaves, Skulls  and Dew Drops!
