Recyling an Old Book for a Paper Journal

USArtQuest has been an awesome partner with the design team at Altered Pages during March, their products are high quality top of the line. Believe me, no one is paying me to say this! Over the next three days I have a project that I will be sharing in stages.  I am up-cycling an old book to be my journal.  I am not sure if I would call my journal a junk-journal or a glue book.  It is not your typical journal, maybe it should be called a paper journal.

The plan is to fill this journal with  images of  Marie Antoinette from Altered Pages collection of AWESOME images!

Before we get to the journal I would love to introduce you to the wonderful handmade papers from USArtQuest!

They are a feast to a paper addicts eyes!  I can almost feel them with my eyes!

The colors and textures are to die for, there are mulberry papers, glittered papers, sewn papers, botanicals, even wax.

You will find prints and patterns, USArtQuest has it all.

Back to my journal.  If you touch and feel handmade papers you will not be able to toss even the smallest pieces.  That is where a paper journal comes in.

Along with other USArtQuest and Altered Pages products I will be sharing my paper journal journey!

It will be filled with pockets, tags, envelopes and more!

To start I find old books that have outlived there useful life.  The old books HERE would be great for the cover!

Cut the pages from the spine.  If the book is really old it will practically fall apart.

Then the fun begins... selecting the papers to use in the paper journal book.

Tomorrow we will add pages to the book!

St Patricks Day is almost here!!!

Happy St Patrick's Day!!!

Last Year I took a class at my local scrapbook store, THE SCRAPBOOK ZONE and made this book.  I then embellished it with my Altered Pages Erin go Bragh collage sheet and KUNZE German Scrap!

The front of my book is embellished with this beautiful KUNZE German Scrap frame around the image of the fair maiden from the Altered Pages Erin Go Bragh collage sheet.

On the pull out tab it a precious angel from my collage sheet.

On this page is a sweet boy and girl from the collage sheet.  On the opposite facing page the top of the page is trimmed with beautiful KUNZE German Scrap adhered with Tacky Glue!

Two Irish dancers from the collage sheet and in the corner KUNZE German Scrap corner. On the opposing page a KUNZE horseshoe and shamrock. The shamrock has been highlighted with Wink of Stella... see it glitter!

The KUNZE horseshoe and shamrock were silver, a green tint was added to the shamrock with the grass green Chameleon pen!

Wishing you the LUCK OF THE IRISH
this St. Patrick's Day!!!
Supplies:

Awesome Finds at the Thrift Store

Here are a few treasures I picked up recently...  if you know me then you are aware of my love affair with vintage paper!!!

When I saw this I couldn't pass it up.  At first I thought is was a page from a calendar.  Then I found two others with page numbers on them.  Unless you know of a calendar with 22 pages I don't think this is a calendar page.

This is an other wonderful find.  A book titled "The Century World's Fair Book for Boys and Girls"  by  Tudor Jenks. (C) 1893 by the Century Company, The De Vinne Press.  The book is about the World's Columbian Exposition held in Chicago.  The Fair ran from May 1, 1893 until October 30, 1893 with more than 27 million people attending.  Learn more HERE about the Fair!
